She recently completed an EC course at the Sunbridge Institute, and will be continuing her education through classes and mentorship.
When not teaching, Joy can be found with her family, which includes her husband, two middle school boys, a dog, two cats, and fish. She loves gardening, being in nature, hiking, and camping.

Executive Director

Andrew joined the RWS administrative team in 2023, returning to the state of Virginia where he began his diverse career in education over 20 years ago. He started in the classroom as a health and physical education teacher, working with students from kindergarten to 12th grade during his 15 years in the classroom. He has taught in public, private, and international school settings. His time and experience in Austria had a powerful impact in the early part of his career.
Starting in 2018, he pioneered with a team to open a Waldorf charter school in Boise, Idaho. During this time, he primarily served as the Charter Administrator leading a team of 45 faculty and staff members in service of delivering a Waldorf education to over 350 students. He holds a Master’s in Educational Leadership. Additionally, he completed his Waldorf Leadership and Administration program from the Center for Anthroposophy recognizing that Waldorf education is a genuine, meaningful, and revolutionary way to teach and learn. It has grounded him as an educator and as a leader.
He and his wife, Deborah, were married in Alexandria, Virginia in 2005. They have 4 children: Ella, Findlay, Cora, and Bennett. Deborah and Andrew met and got married in Virginia, and though they moved away in 2006, Virginia remained in their hearts and minds all these years. Together, they enjoy the mountains and the beach (well, Andrew is warming up to it) as well as all the outdoors has to offer. From camping to kayaking, it is an adventure every time with their children.
Grove Class Assistant

Deborah joined Richmond Waldorf School as an Early Childhood Teacher Assistant for the Grove class in the fall of 2025. Her family moved to Richmond, VA summer of 2023 from Boise, ID to join the RWS community. She is excited to be stepping into this new role after taking a brief 15 year hiatus to stay home with her four children. She appreciates the warm and intentional focus on the whole child in Waldorf education.
French

Corinne grew up with a French mother and spent summers with her family in northern France. She has taught French since 2010 and completed her masters in TESOL in 2015. Corinne led French song and story time in NYC public libraries and organized french clubs and french competitions for her students. Outside of Waldorf she runs her own French lessons and tutoring business with a small group of amazing French instructors. She also teaches yoga and has a deep passion for integrating mindfulness in her instruction both in the classroom and studio. Though 2024 is her first year in a Waldorf school, she believes its values align with her own teaching philosophy and is looking forward to getting to know her students.
4th Grade

Ashley started her career as a mental health professional providing intensive therapeutic services for her clients. With a degree in Psychology from Sweet Briar College in Virginia, she focused her studies on early childhood development as a personal passion. After she started her own family, she discovered RWS while searching for a pre-school and quickly realized her personal connection to the Waldorf educational philosophy. She started her journey at Richmond Waldorf School as a substitute teacher in the 2022-23 school year and is thrilled to be joining the faculty. She has two children currently enrolled in the grades program.
2nd Grade (Interim)

Anne joined the Richmond Waldorf School in Summer 2025. She graduated from Randolph Macon College in May 2025 with a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies and a minor in Studio Art. Through taking education classes, fieldwork in schools, working as a camp counselor, and extensive Waldorf training, she has joined the Richmond Waldorf School and is excited to teach the second-grade class as a long-term substitute.
In Anne’s free time, she loves to craft/paint (especially plein air painting), hiking in nature, cooking, and being with family and friends.
My goal for my classroom is to foster an environment where children can explore the world with curiosity, self-expression, love, finding a deeper connection to the earth and gain meaningful experiences.
Business Office Manager

Mary joined the RWS administrative team as Business Office Manager in February 2022. Born and raised in VA, youngest of 7 children, Mary attended VCU and lived for 3 years in paradise on the outer banks of NC. Mary then became a mom of two sons, and after a few years, began a career in accounting, where she served a variety of businesses (architecture, engineering, printing company, real estate) as CFO and Administration and Finance Executive. She left the corporate world a few years ago and founded her consulting firm, Three Rivers Consulting. Mary enjoys supporting non-profit clients as well as entrepreneurs with their financial needs so they can thrive and enjoy success.
Mary comes from a large family and has a huge heart for supporting a caring community for children. She strives to bring efficiency and ease of process for effective finance and administration, so Waldorf can focus on what’s most important, the children’s education.
Mary spends as much time with family as possible, loves to garden, cook, bake, and go to the beach and travel. She also volunteers with several non profits (local Chambers of Commerce and The Braxton Institute).

Rachel began coordinating the high school placement for 8th graders at RWS in 2016. She enjoys helping families understand their options and how to best navigate a sometimes complex system. Rachel loves seeing Waldorf graduates shine in their new settings.
