At Richmond Waldorf School, music is woven into the rhythm of each and every school day. From the pentatonic flutes in 1st Grade to our Middle School Orchestra and Choir, our music program serves every child throughout their schooling, not as an extra curricluluar, but as an essential part of each child's education. We are lucky to have the talented Mrs. Ayre leading our music program, and class teachers who are constantly finding new and beautiful ways to incorporate music into their day to day teaching. #waldorfeducation #musiceducation

Each year, our 8th graders embark on a culminating class trip —the ultimate test of the community they have built over their eight years together. Out in the real world, away from the comforts of home, they were asked to navigate unfamiliar challenges together, prepare meals for one another, and work as a team, relying on each other through every triumph and mishap of the week. This year our graduating class traveled to New York City, spending a week learning to navigate the rhythms of one of the biggest cities in the world. From quiet moments in world-class museums to the energy of Broadway, so much of their middle school curriculum was vividly brought to life. Each year, this important trip proves to our graduating students that they are strong, capable, independent, and ready for whatever the wider world holds next for them. Looking back on this adventure now, we feel immense gratitude for the journey they shared—and so much excitement for the high school path they are headed towards! #waldorfeducation #8thgradetrip

At a Waldorf school, handwork isn't just a rainy-day hobby, it's a core academic tool. Counting rows and tracking geometric symmetry serve as living lessons in sequencing and logic, and spending months turning a ball of yarn into a one of a kind stuffed animal provides a valuable space to practice patience, focus and emotional resilience when things go wrong. Not to mention, the grounding effect a quiet midday knitting circle can have on a rambunctious group of students is really something magical ✨

A look back at our beautiful Reverse Rose Ceremony celebrating the Class of 2026 during our Final Assembly in June. At the start of each school year, our 8th Grade class welcomes each incoming 1st Grader with a rose as they pass through the beautiful flower arch symbolizing the beginning of their Grades journey. On the last day of school, those same 1st Graders offer each of their 8th Grade buddies, whom they have built loving relationships with all year long, a rose. After a teary goodbye the new graduates pass through the arch on their own, symbolizing the end of their journey at RWS and the beginning of their next big adventure! 🌹

🔊 The sounds of Richmond Waldorf School are the sounds of childhood fully engaged — pencils moving across paper, yarn winding, feet running, voices singing, stories unfolding, and hands hard at work. At RWS, learning is alive with movement, music, art, language, practical work, and joyful discovery. There is still time to apply for the 2026–2027 school year, and applications are being accepted where space allows. Learn more at richmondwaldorf.com/visit-us or give #us a call at 804-377-8024 ext 3. #rva #waldorfeducation #letthemplay #getoutside experientialearning
