What started over ten years ago as a simple idea between a knowledgable parent and an inspired class teacher has transformed into one of the most beloved programs at Richmond Waldorf School. 🚴‍♂️✨ Biking at RWS isn't just about learning to pedal, it's deeply integrated into how our students learn and grow. From building confidence and resilience to supporting motor integration, spatial awareness, and focus in the classroom, watching our students hit new milestones on two wheels is a daily joy at our school. If you see us cruising through the neighborhood, give us a wave! Our brand new Grades playground includes an updated pump track for all of our students to enjoy! Join us on Monday, August 24th at 5:30pm to see the new pump track in action. Curious about our biking program? Read the full story of how parent and instructor Glenn Amey, along with our amazing community, built this program from the ground up at the link in our profile. ✨🌈

In Waldorf Education, the practice of "looping", where a Class Teacher stays with the same cohort of students for a number of years, is one of the most powerful aspects of our pedagogy. Instead of meeting a new teacher every fall, students build a continuous relationship with an educator who comes to know them intimately. By growing together year after year, the class forms a close-knit, supportive community where every child feels truly seen and supported. This multi-year journey creates a stable, secure classroom environment where deep trust (and big fun in the form of epic overnight field trips!) can flourish. We are so grateful for our talented Class Teachers who are asked to learn and grow alongside their students on this incredible multi-year journey! #waldorfeducation #teacherlooping #waldorfcommunity"

In Waldorf Education, learning foreign languages serves as a vital bridge to understanding diverse cultures, fostering empathy, and awakening a lifelong curiosity about the world. Starting in First Grade, our students begin immersive study in two foreign languages, French & Mandarin. In the early years, learning happens naturally through song, poetry, movement, and storytelling. As students grow older, this oral foundation transitions gracefully into reading, grammar, and translation. Thank you to Madame Corinne and Mrs. Yu for making our language program such a rich and exciting one! #waldorfeducation #worldlanguages #globalcitizenship

In Waldorf Education, the Main Lesson Book serves as a student’s primary, hand-crafted textbook and a deeply personal portfolio of their learning journey. Students create their own Main Lesson Books throughout the year for each subject studied, synthesizing what they've learned through detailed summaries, intricate illustrations, diagrams, and original writing. Because every page reflects an individual student's effort and creativity, the Main Lesson Book becomes a beautiful, lasting record of their intellectual and artistic growth. We are endlessly inspired by our students work throughout the year! #waldorfeducation #mainlessonbook #learningbydoing Want to learn more about what a Waldorf education could look like for your child? In Waldorf Education, the act of working together on a Class Play each year is a central teaching tool rather than just a fun performance for an audience. Each year, plays are chosen carefully by the Class Teacher to align with the specific curriculum of that grade. Whether the students are studying fables in 2nd, ancient myths in 5th, or American History in 8th, acting out the stories on stage allows our students to deepen and enhance their understanding of a topic. The Class Play also serves as a powerful tool for building essential life skills. Memorizing lines, projecting voices, and speaking in chorus strengthens literacy, vocabulary, and oral communication skills. Weeks of rehearsals and set building teach discipline, patience, and the ability to remain adaptable when things go wrong. Every student in every class participates fully in their class play, creating immense opportunity for both personal growth and strengthening of the class community as a whole. Bravo to all of the amazing plays that were shared with our community this year, we can't wait to see what next year will bring to our stage! #waldorfeducation #waldorfclassplay

At Richmond Waldorf School, music is woven into the rhythm of each and every school day. From the pentatonic flutes in 1st Grade to our Middle School Orchestra and Choir, our music program serves every child throughout their schooling, not as an extra curricluluar, but as an essential part of each child's education. We are lucky to have the talented Mrs. Ayre leading our music program, and class teachers who are constantly finding new and beautiful ways to incorporate music into their day to day teaching. #waldorfeducation #musiceducation
