Maddie Harris

Maddie joined the Early Childhood program as a Teaching Assistant in the fall of 2026. Born and raised in Richmond, Maddie earned their bachelor’s degree in psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University and their Master of Social Work, specializing in Policy and Advocacy, from Columbia University. They bring a wide range of experience working with children, including supporting children on the autism spectrum and children with other developmental differences as a behavior therapist, volunteering as a Girl Scout troop leader, interning in child development research labs, and teaching English as a second language in South Korea. Maddie is also an AmeriCorps alum and has worked with various homelessness, housing, and public policy organizations throughout their career.

 

Outside of the classroom, Maddie enjoys going on walks and spending time with their fiancé, Ben, their son, Griffin, and their dog, Blaze. They are an avid reader, enjoy writing poetry, and love cross-stitch and embroidery. Maddie is also a music lover and enjoys collecting records and cassette tapes.

 

Maddie is excited to work alongside the lead teacher to create a nurturing and engaging classroom environment where children are encouraged to develop a well-rounded understanding of themselves, their community, and the world around them.
